Jim was a really great guy. A very good artist and designer. He worked mostly with the landscape group. Primarily for the art directors and special projects for Dave Burkhart. He designed area development features and furniture, like lighting, fixtures, seating, many of his designs are part of the built environment at USJ. People rest on the benches, walk the paths, lit at night, by his lighting designs, families eat lunch sitting on his benches at the park. Someone designs these fixtures and Jim did a beautiful job.
Jim was going through a divorce during the project. I was fortunate to work with him.
Jim loved cars and travel. During the project we both had sports cars. A group of us with sports cars took a tour of back country Santa Barbara and Ojai, stopping for lunch and then overnight in Santa Barbara and a quick drive back to LA the following day.
Jim, Eric Seutter, Bing, Aaron and I traveled for several days in the Yucatan in Southern Mexico. We visited several remote Mayan Temples in the Jungle, traveling by river to the sites. We were forced to move from our original hotel because it was overrun with snakes. A really fun trip.
Jim had a gentle, kind manner about him. That's why you don't remember him. He worked by the lighting designers in his own office. He arrived at work very early in the morning and left in the early afternoon. He had a long drive and his schedule allowed him to miss the traffic. Memories of Dennis Kraft
